Teresa Ann (Marak) Raphel passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on March 1, 1949. She grew up in Dodge City, Kansas, with her parents, Louise and Joe Marak Sr., and her three siblings.
Teresa attended Sacred Heart Grade School and St. Mary of the Plains High School. After graduation from high school, she entered St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in the spring of 1970. On August 1, 1970, she married Jose Enrique Raphel, and they moved to Kansas City to begin their married life. Teresa worked as a psychiatric nurse while her husband attended Kansas University Medical School. She and Jose moved to St. Joe, Missouri, after his graduation where she continued her career in psychiatric nursing, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Missouri Western State College in 1989. Teresa and Jose eventually retired to their favorite escape at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and spent many happy years with their beloved dog, Anise. Upon the death of her husband in 2015, Teresa returned to Oklahoma to be closer to her family and her father, whom she cared for until his death. Above all things, Teresa loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them.
Teresa is survived by her three siblings, Joseph P. Marak Jr. of Woodward, Oklahoma, Barbara Ann Newman of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Thomas David Marak of Norman, Oklahoma. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Joe Sr., and her husband of 45 years, Jose Raphel.
As a lifelong devoted Catholic, the church was a large part of Teresa’s life. In lieu of flowers, Teresa requested that donations be sent to your local Catholic church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
