Phil Carson Coldiron

Phil Carson Coldiron, 85, of Wellston, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 25, 2024, after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Phil was born on November 26, 1938, to Charles H. and Exie Ida Coldiron in Oklahoma City. After graduating from Crooked Oak High School in 1957, he went on to study Zoology at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1962.

After graduation and with responsibilities growing quickly, Phil entered the world of free enterprise. He launched his business by buying an old truck and using it to buy and sell hay to local dairymen. Recognizing the Oklahoma City Zoo maintained one of the largest hoofed animal collections in the U.S., he landed a hay contract. Steady and consistent sales stabilized his business and became the launching pad for many other business adventures resulting in the company he leaves behind, Coldiron Specialized Driveaway.

In 1959 he met and married Ro Leta Kay Walker. Their marriage produced three children, Roger Clay, Jay Carson and Kelly Le An.

Phil never retired. He continued to work until the very end. He enjoyed work believing work itself is central to the human experience. Although he worked hard, he never let it stop him from having fun. He snow skied, hunted, fished and played golf all over the world.

Phil was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Exie, and his brother, Connie. He is survived by his wife, Kay; sons, Clay and Jay, and daughter, Kelly; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his brothers, Don, Arnold, Mark, Brent, and his sister, Ladona Sheets.
