Margie passed away peacefully January 9, 2025, surrounded by her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was born on April 26, 1938, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Minnie (Blanchard) and Thomas Woodrow (Woody) Spybuck. Margie lived a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, surrounded by family and friends.
She graduated from Tecumseh High School. Throughout the years she worked many jobs alongside her mother and sister, one job in particular was at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Tecumseh. She then settled down to finish her career working with juveniles at the Oklahoma Central Juvenile Center in Tecumseh where she retired.
Margie enjoyed dancing, and playing sports with her sisters, family and friends coached by her parents in her younger years. She cherished the moments through the years watching her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports. She attended all the games throughout her wonderful life, and enjoyed traveling. She was a very proud devoted member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and was very active in her traditional Shawnee ways to include treasuring her native language and the passionate desire in passing it down to her children and grandchildren. She cherished being around everyone during her traditional ceremonies. Margie’s home was always open to any child in need throughout the years. She was a proud foster parent a showing of how compassionate of a spirit she was.
She is preceded in death by her parents Woody and Minnie Spybuck; sisters, Joanne Watson and Augustine “Oogie” Johnson.
Margie is survived by her huge loving family to include her sons, Douglas and Travis McGirt, Joseph and Ronald Morton; daughters, Patty Sanders and husband James Thomas, Tisha Kaye (Morton) and Ralph Tall Bear; grandchildren, Danielle and Kristen McGirt, Misty McGirt and partner Brian Bristow, Randall Williams, Sierra Sanders, Chris and wife Kayla, Minnie , Kitty, Walk Up, Suzy and Trevor Tall Bear, Pavenah Vaillancourt, Layla and Kailand Morton; great-grandchildren, Aurelius, Iunicius, Kenacius, Leonidas, Tiana, Briseis McGirt, Maximus Bristow, Jett and Major Williams, Eleanor and Theodore Tall Bear, and Pippin Vaillancourt; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Tribal Rites will begin Friday afternoon at Brendle Corner with Glenn Mann officiating.
