James Lee Gregg, known by many as "Slim", passed from this life on February 1, 2023, at the age of 84. He was a long-time resident of Asher, Oklahoma. James was born to Johnny Vernon Gregg and Rosie Mae (Matthews) Gregg on November 28, 1938, in Asher, Oklahoma.
James married Juanita “Kay” Hughes in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, on January 31, 1961. He proudly served in the 45th Infantry of the United States Army for three years during the 1960s. His career was in the oil fields as a driller and tool pusher. He loved fishing, growing okra and tomatoes in his garden and hunting quail. As a “Jack of All Trades”, he worked at farming, ranching and repairing the mechanics of cars. He also had a talent for carpentry, which included building birdhouses and working on the homes of family members.
James was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, DJ Lynch; brother, JV Gregg and sister, Letha Belshe.
James is survived by wife, Kay; sons, Ricky Gregg and wife, Pennie, of Asher, OK and Tim Gregg of Frisco, TX; daughters, Brenda Lynch and husband, Joe, of Bethel Acres, OK and Connie Gregg of Asher, OK; grandchildren: Shelby Williams, McKayla Gregg, Shayla Gregg, Patrick Farris, Shawnda Mitchell, Angel Gregg and Chelsee Clagette; six great grandchildren; brothers: Ellis Gregg, Paul Gregg and David Gregg; sister, Tina Long; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and a host of friends.
Visitation will be 12:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at AE Funeral Services Chapel, 603 W. Independence St., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804.
A service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Asher First Baptist Church, 109 Main St., Asher, Oklahoma 74826.
Interment to follow at Wanette Cemetery, Wanette, Oklahoma. Military honors will be rendered during this time.
