Emblem

Fifty pounds of Roma tomatoes, three cups salt, three cups crushed red chili pepper, and ten fresh jalapeños.

Harvey was frequently asked for Amigo’s salsa recipe in public. Most were expecting a more manageable portion, so he was always delighted to see the look on their faces when he went into a commercial sized recipe. Humor, sarcasm, and a quick wit were a big part of his personality.

Harvey Jan Valentine of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on August 3, 2024. He was born in Chico, California, on September 24, 1950, to H. Jay Valentine and Myrna Virginia (Shields) Valentine.

Harvey completed two years of college and served his country in the Air National Guard. For over fifty years he was a restaurateur at various restaurants: Pizza Planet, Crockett’s Smokehouse and Amigo’s Mexican Restaurant in Shawnee. His restaurants were in Edmond and Shawnee, Oklahoma and Shreveport, Louisiana. His community involvement included: Board Member of South Central Industries for fifteen years, Board Member of Shawnee Housing Authority for seven and a half years and Chairman for four years.

Harvey married Jolene Hayes on September 30, 2014, in Shawnee. Harvey was previously married to Carol Thompson; they had two treasured sons, Hunter and Taylor. He enjoyed traveling, boating, skiing, cooking, reading, and playing tennis. He also loved pets (he called them his girls) and enjoyed the “finer cuisine” and dining out. He always had to check out any new restaurant in Shawnee. Special memories were made of him baking cookies with his granddaughters and spending time at the lake with his family and friends, and traveling with his sister.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, H. Jay and Myrna Valentine.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Jolene; son, Hunter Valentine and wife, Sandra, and son, Taylor Valentine; grandchildren (Hunter and Sandra’s children): Zoe Carr and husband, Jamel, Mark Cardona, Steve Cardona, Holly Valentine, Jade Valentine, and (Taylor’s children), Ruth Valentine and Eliott Valentine; great grandchildren (Zoe and Jamel’s children): Brendalin Carr, King Carr, Psalm Carr and Rosalina Carr; one great granddaughter (Mark Cardona and Amy Puckett’s daughter) due in November; sister, Virginia Valentine and husband, John McLaughin; niece, Melanie Duran and husband, Michael, and their daughter, Madeline Duran; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
