Delbert Craig Winstead was born on January 23, 1959, in Santa Ana, California to Thomas and Wilma Dean Winstead. He moved to Oklahoma in 1971.
Alongside his twin brother Darrell, Delbert began working at Harrah High School when they turned 17. Harrah High School became home to them, and 48 years later, Delbert was still working there at the time of his passing. Delbert loved people, animals, motorcycles, and most importantly GOD and it is fair to say that he was always surrounded by all of them. His animal companions were dear to him, and many are enjoying their reunion and a long walk with him now. The simplest pleasures in life were the most important to Delbert. He was a quiet man, but his heart spoke loudly. He was kind and gentle, funny, and genuine and he gave so selflessly whether it was to those he loved or to complete strangers.
On the morning of Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Delbert was surrounded by family and friends as the clouds opened and he was ushered to heaven. He passed away at his niece’s home after a courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Tom Winstead of Paden, OK, and Wilma Dean Winstead, and brother Terry Winstead of Harrah, OK. He is survived by his twin brother Darrell, sister Cheryl Aguilar (and husband Tommy), sister Rhonda Winstead, brother Ralph Winstead (and wife Beverly), all of Harrah, OK, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Delbert’s love of life will not come to an end with his death. Family and friends will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest. His role in this world is an example to all, sharing qualities of unconditional love, strength, and generosity that extended beyond his immediate family to encompass a wide network of loved ones. He accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a gentle spirit. Delbert’s passing is a great loss and leaves a deep wound as he left a profound impact on others. This wound will be gravely felt by his entire family, his friends, his colleagues, students, and countless others who loved him BIG.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Harrah High School gym. Delbert’s memorial serves as an inspiring tribute, celebrating a life rich in love and resilience.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time.
