Cynthia Shaw

December 7, 1953 — November 4, 2023

Cynthia (Cindy) Shaw, 69, of Choctaw, passed away on November 4, 2023, after a long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease.  She was tired and ready to spread her wings.  She was born in Wichita, Kansas, on December 7, 1953, Pearl Habor Day, to Mr. Quentin and Loretta (Lee) Reid.
Cindy graduated with a RN in Nursing at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas, in 1981.  She was a wonderful nurse and had many memories of patients and fellow coworkers.  She was part of the new “Infection Unit” at Parkland Hospital in the early 1990’s and worked as a supervisor of nursing.  Later in life, she received her master’s in nursing at Oklahoma City University.  She also obtained her certification in Microsoft (MCSE).  The last position she held in her career was “Professor in Nursing” at Oklahoma City Community College.  With almost 35 years in nursing, she dedicated her life to others unselfishly.
Cindy was divorced from Gary Shaw, but they remained friends throughout the years.  Gary and Cindy had one child, Casie (Shaw) Levering.  She already had a son, Michael Castleberry, from a previous short marriage to Larry Castleberry in Dallas.  Gary adopted Michael at the age of 10 years old and he was proud to have Michael carry his last name.  Cindy’s proudest moments revolved around her kids and 6 grandkids, and her career.  Cindy also loved her animals, even in early childhood.
Cindy’s favorite pastimes were cooking, listening to music, gardening, traveling, caring for her animals, and spending time with family and friends.  She was a true Hippie!  She was a flower child, a rebel, a good dancer, and a caring person who loved astronomy and physics.  She was loving, free spirited, adventurous, and super smart.  She was also a good sister and mom.  She lived in the Dallas area most of her life, but also lived in Florida and Oklahoma.
Cindy Shaw was predeceased by her parents, Quentin and Loretta Reid of Waurika, Oklahoma; an infant brother; grandparents; many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends along the way, and ex-husband, Gary Shaw.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Casie Levering and spouse, Marcus; son, Michael Shaw and wife, Karin; sister, Susan Holthouser and spouse, Tim; special niece, Traci Fish, who was with her to the very end.
