Cranfill Wisdom

January 3, 1930 — June 7, 2023

Cranfill Karl Wisdom, 93, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.  He was born in Loco, Oklahoma, on January 3, 1930, to Grover A. Wisdom and Estalee Laura (Kent) Wisdom.
C.K. graduated from Loco High School in 1947 and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Central State College in Edmond, OK, in 1951.  He continued his education and received a M.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma, School of Medicine, in 1955 and an internship at St. Anthony’s Hospital, in Oklahoma City, OK, from 1955-1956.
Lieutenant Wisdom proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1958.  He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he met his wife, Shirley C. Sexton of Deer Lodge, Montana.  Shirley was a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu.  They were married on August 31, 1957, and were stationed at Ford Island Naval Air Station where C.K. was a physician.
After his military service, the Wisdoms moved to McAlester, OK, where C.K. was a general practitioner from 1958-1966.  From 1966-1969, he had a general radiology residency at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.  He received board certification from the American Board of Radiology in 1971 and from the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 1975.
In 1969, the family moved to Shawnee, OK, where C.K. practiced radiology and nuclear medicine.  They lived on a farm south of Shawnee where they raised cattle and trained show horses.  C.K. and Shirley loved to travel and visited much of the United States and many countries abroad.  They really enjoyed cruises with their family.  C.K. loved to read and enjoyed being with his family and friends.  The farm life and taking care of his cattle and his cow dogs were special to him.
Dr. Wisdom was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church, Pottawatomie County Medical Society, Oklahoma State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Radiological Society, American College of Radiology, Society of Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Society of North America, and Greater Oklahoma City Radiological Society.
C.K. was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; son, Mark Wisdom; parents; brothers, G.A. Wisdom and Royce Wisdom; sisters, Wynell Sawyer and Betty Sutterfield.
C.K. is survived by his son, Michael Wisdom and wife, Judy, of Englewood, Florida; daughter, Mary Wisdom of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren:  Kristina Maltos, Elizabeth Throckmorton and husband, Solomon, and Kerry Dittmeier; great-grandchildren:  Brayden Covey, Maddox Throckmorton, and Rayanna Cramer; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held:  1:00 pm on Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 632 N. Kickapoo Avenue, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Shawnee, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family request you make donations to the Blessed Stanley Rother Endowment Fund.
The family will be receiving friends immediately following the graveside service for light refreshments at the The Grove on Union Clubhouse located at 3900 N. Union, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804 until 5:00 pm.
